The Toys seemed to have a lot of quality control issues, and for the money, I think it's worth going the extra mile for the Boy.
I bought the toy around 6 months ago, and it's been fine for me. too much fucking honk. It seems the CC is more popular, but then it was "first" in the "new" affordable non-boutique analog delay game. I like trippy spacey sounds but the pitch bends on the Memory Boy were too extreme to be of any real use for me. And for, if budget is an issue you could always check out the behringer time machine. Anyone that has played both will tell you that the sound quality of the Deluxe Memory Man is much more lush and "3-D", which is why people still happily pay the premium for them.
Incidentally, mine is the V2 Carbon Copy and it's modulation far better and usable that the earlier version.

I dont need a capo. The Memory Man uses high quality out of production BBD chips that Electro-Harmonix bought up, as well as a different overall design. I've had the Man and the Boy (tee-hee) - I found the boost on the DMM annoying, but thought the Boy was cracking, and they crop up secondhand for very reasonable prices.
Earlier ones had issues with one of the smaller boards inside becoming disconnected, but I haven't seen it happen.
